Weekly Newsletter 119: November 18

Published on 18 November 2024 at 00:37

This week’s newsletter is a bit late because the Flu is no respecter of persons or immune systems, nor does it care if you’ve just gotten over a cold… But before it knocked me out on Friday, I did get a lot of words written this week!

Author's Life:

Well, I was not prepared for the Flu to barrel me over on Friday night. While running errands, my energy level plummeted, my brain function all but vanished (figuratively), and it was all I could do to get home. Come to find out, I’d spiked a fever of 100f (39c)🤒. I spent all day Saturday into Sunday morning fighting it. It finally broke on Sunday around noon.

On Tuesday, I had my upper endoscope, which I nearly missed due to my husband (my driver) being sick. I do not know how he functioned all week with this flu. My gastroenterologist thinks I have non ulcer dyspepsia, so I have to take a pill before I eat now. 😣 but the good news is that this diagnosis fits everything I’ve been dealing with the last five years. So, hopefully the meds help, and that’s what the cause is.

Writing & Editing:

My November Novel, “the Legacy of Her Mother.” Went from 43,169 words to 62,612 words, which makes nearly 20k words. There are more twists and turns than a West Virginia back road, and I'm hoping to get back into it today! I didn't do any writing over the weekend because of the flu. 😣

Thank you for reading this far, here’s a snippet from "the Legacy of Her Mother”:

“Rumour around the chats is that you like Chaos Theory, and I just happen to have a bottle that my uncle gave me a few years ago. It’s not opened,” he rambled coming to sit, and I noted that he’d shed his hoodie while he was out of the room. He showed me the bottle, and that the seal was still good. “I was afraid to try it on my own, being a lesser preter and all.”

“Are you asking me to play 'Truth or Dare', Fangs?” I asked, using his ‘in stream’ nickname. He set the bottle and two shot glasses on the card table.

“Only if you won’t regret it later,” he said with his full chest. Adding points for courage to his character sheet, I grabbed the bottle and broke the seal then spun the cap off with a flick of my finger.

“Regrets are for the morning after,” I quipped, then poured a little in each glass not spilling a single drop. He lifted his right eyebrow as he sat.

“I think I may be outclassed.”

“You’re just a little wet behind the ears still.” I set the bottle down and smirked, “'Truth or Dare', or 'Two Truths and a Lie'. Guess wrong and you take a shot. Guess right and the asker takes the shot.”

       “I like this idea.”

Art Feature:

This is a scene from the beginning of The Legacy of Her Mother, and features Lori’s father… I’m not going to say his name here or who he’s supposed to resemble as that would be too telling. But this is the first time she’s meeting him in her 6,000 years, cause her mother was a B'aktana.

Thanks for reading!
