Weekly Newsletter 118: November 9

Well, this week didn’t go well. From doctor’s appointments to the election and writing too…

Lets jump in, shall we?

Political Statement:

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MENTAL CAPACITY FOR THIS TODAY,
PLEASE SCROLL TO AUTHOR'S LIFE SECTION!

I need to get the political stuff out of the way. I don’t like talking about it as Politics in general enrage me, and I don't like who "America" has chosen for president, but the outcome of this election will in fact impact my being able to publish.

Why? Look up Project 2025 “the Mandate For Leadership, and how it affects libraries, schools, and the LGBTQ. If you like reading long drawn out manifestos read the manifesto, that's policies would limit education, defund public schools, and libraries. It also calls into question laws that were signed and VOTED IN from back in the 1960-2010’s including racial segregation and women being allowed to get birth control without needing a man's permission, whether it be her father or her husband. You can read through the manifesto/book/document that is 900 pages here.

I warn you that it is a very dry read. I tried to read it, before getting a headache and stomachache, so I searched to find the basis of the book bans. >_< Basically, the banning of books will start on an educational level removing mentions of Critical Race Theory (if you don't know what it is LOOK IT UP), then trickles down into other books. It also states that “Pornography” should be banned and criminalized in all it mediums. This is to include books with ANY sex in them. Even if it’s not “pornographic” which is classified as sexual descriptions for the purpose of arousal (though this definition is also challenged due to this manifesto). MOST ROMANCE BOOKS FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY (EVEN MINE) AFTER THEY CHANG THE DEFINITION! THIS is why I cannot keep quiet here on my business website. Besides the fact that I write about ALL KINDS of love that the Manifesto would also criminalize along with diverse people groups.

I am grieved, worried, and afraid for those I love now that he has been elected president (unofficially as of this posting). Those fears have been validated across the country by threats, idiocy, and slurs being flung by those who have decided they have the right to control others through legal means even though what those they are hurting aren't doing anything to them! I do have more reasons to be against this conservative manifesto from the radical right wing, who are going to push it now that they have the majority in all three houses, and Donald Trump as a person, but they are personal, so I will leave them for other spaces. But I will not stop talking about the freedoms that should be EQUAL to all human beings. NOT reserved for straight white men who have a superiority complex and a need to control everyone, even if it harms them.

Author's Life:

Now, for the other life news. I am feeling less sick! Just a running nose from the chill that has set it, but I have to go to “occupational therapy” for my thumb injury before the insurance will approve an MRI. Yes, even though I have pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling in the thumb, I have to see a therapist before they will approve it. As for the pain in my side, which has been a bane to me for years, all the current testing has come back within normal ranges. So, I have an endoscope scheduled for Tuesday.

As for the next few weeks, they will be up in the air as I have therapy for the thumb, endoscope, and also will be taking care of my grandparents a few hours a day for the next few weeks as my Nana (dad’s mom) just had open heart surgery and is recovering. I do plan to take my laptop with me so I can spend some down time over there as well as help with the household things too and just spend time with them.

Community news:

Please keep my editor and friend, Maxine and her family in your thoughts and prayers as her mother, Brenda lost her fight with cancer on Thursday (11/7). She was a reader of my books, and I am sad that I will never get to meet the woman who raised one of my favorite people.

Writing & Editing:

Last week, this section was very large as I talked about my November Novel, “the Legacy of Her Mother.” It has changed a bit from the original thought process, which it usually does, BUT it is now up to 43,169 words. Last Saturday, according to my book tracker at the time of posting, I had 18,200 words, which is a gain of 24,969 words. It’s coming along and the plot is thickening.

Thank you for reading this far, here’s a Longer snippet from "the Legacy of Her Mother”:

Calliope slid out of her chair and ran to me. I sent my bag to the bench in the mudroom and caught her in my arms as she reached me.

“Good morning, Lori,” she said, hugging me around the neck. I hugged her back and smiled at the warmth it brought before the Bitchtress tried to speak from my memories again. I shoved them down without hearing a word of it. Calliope pulled back and looked into my eyes. “Happy Birthday.”

“Thank you, Escas,” I said, and meant it. I’d never had anyone besides Maeve and Nora wish me a happy birthday. Most years, it was just another day on the calendar. After six thousand years, I didn’t expect today to be any different. I looked up, and Briar set a gift bag on the table in front of her. “What’s this?” I asked as their mother pushed me toward the table.

“What’s it look like?” Briar snarked, but Amaris didn’t let the teenager’s sass overshadow on the moment.

“It’s your birthday present, silly,” she said, placing a card in front of it. “Packana and Makumae say that you’re supposed to open the card first, so you know who it’s from.”

“Well, that makes sense,” I said, setting Calliope back in her seat as I looked to Maeve, “Do I have to eat my breakfast before I open it or can I open it first and save the anticipation?”

“You can open it first. I think the girls would prefer that, since the bus gets here in ten minutes,” she said, glancing at the clock on the wall as she moved to the coffee pot. “You still take your coffee black?”

“Does the Maker only speak when he pleases?” I rhetorically asked.
