Weekly Newsletter 137: March 22

Published on 22 March 2025 at 00:02

The week has been better mentally, but I’ve had quite enough of Amazon’s bullshit with paperback printing. It’s also time for an update on the preorder…

Author's Life:

This week has been restful, and I’ve been writing more, which helps a lot! After throwing out expectation and going with the flow, I had a pretty good week, all things considered. Though Thursday, I was ready to throw hands with Amazon as the 3rd bath of paperbacks came in only to AGAIN have faded printing.

This is the 3rd time from the same print shop (Cleveland, OH), and The 3rd time I’ve complained about it, plus had amazon lodge it with the printing company. I did manage to get 1 good copy with stark printing from the set, and it happened to be the second one in the serial numbers. I don’t know how. In 14 books that I’ve ordered, getting only ONE good book is RIDICULOUS!

Now, I only needed 3 books for the preorder and 2 for the ladies at my hobby weekends. So, I was ordering them 5 at a time, knowing I might have one or two with spine damage or whatever from shipping, but to have 13 bad copies and only 1 that had a good cover and stark ink is RIDICULOUS! I’m so discouraged, and will not be ordering more until I fix the cover so the swirls are not as close to the edge. I’m mad because I didn’t have to do it for Discord’s Nightmare or Cry Havoc, which had the same swirled patterns on the exact same place… Now, I wonder if I ordered some of theirs if they too would be shifted and faded. 😡

ALSO! This coming weekend is the bi-annual (Spring/Fall) Hobby Retreat where I go to pack the books and spend time with my aunt, mom, and other ladies who craft. There are mostly sewers and quilters, but who scrapbook, paint, and other things too! So Next week's newsletter will come out on Sunday instead of Saturday.

The work Life:

Writing:

I had a good few really good days of writing this week after getting a bit stuck. My manager let me read to him again and got myself unstuck, so hopefully this week (before Hobby Retreat) I can get more chapters done! Last week I had 32,490, and the document currently has 51,801 words, which is a gain of 19,311 words! I didn’t think I wrote that much, but that makes me happy!

Editing:

Maxine now has An Angel Falls! I sent the first of 4 chunks to her on Saturday night.

Publishing:

Just the books!

Signed Copy Pre Orders of Chaos Theory are still available. Just not for release day delivery as the books would take time to get in and I may not even get good enough copies to give you 🙄. There are no new orders to report… anywhere. But I did end up with 7 orders total after I found PayPal and my website were being a brat.

Amazon still sits at 3 pre orders...

Paperback Box!

Or Preorder It elsewhere!

Big News: A New Sales Platform Joins the Team!

I am now selling all of my eBooks, including pre orders over on itch.io. Yes, this is primarily a site for indie games, but has expanded in recent years to include indie books. PLUS, the royalties are higher for me through itch.io (90%) unlike other platforms where I make 20-60%, which still isn't much when the books are only 2.99USD, but every cent helps. Follow me over there to get instant updates of when I drop new pre orders for eBooks, unlike Amazon who won't tell you until 2 weeks before it comes out.

Art Feature:

A special treat for you this week! A Redo of “Chaos on the door” which was a picture I referenced a while back, but didn’t get to show because I really didn’t like how it looked. Well, I redid it this week and I LOVE IT. Underneath is a snippet from chapter 3 where this scene takes place.
(Fun Fact: the reflection in the glass behind her is of the Mountain of Muscle and his car.)

Chaos Theory: Chapter 3

...I leaned against the doorframe as I spotted a black Pontiac speeding toward the parking lot.

Unlike most clubs in Paris, the Kandy Shop had a parking lot because it sat in the U-shape of a dead-end alley with three other buildings that Kandis and Roxanne, Kotys and my alternate identities, owned. The car was a sixty-five Pontiac GTO, heavily modified. The supercharged, four fifty-five cubic inch, v-eight engine stuck out the middle of the bonnet a good two feet. The stereo thumped with Born to Raise Hell by Motörhead as he passed the nearest street which was a block away.

As it pulled into our ‘lot,’ I noted the larger than standard exhaust the owner added to compensate for the modifications. They’d also slammed it, so it practically scraped the ground even with the larger wheels. When I saw the custom plates that read Revenge, I did a double-take. How had they gotten it through customs with New Mexico plates? And why?

When it was parked in the far corner of the lot, a ripple of alpha energy pulsed through every inch of my body along and the scent of pine mixed with one I couldn’t identify, wafted to me. This was the mystery man I was waiting for. I would bet money on it. I lifted a hand to my chin as the mountain of a man rose from the driver’s side. Did the rest of him match his size and muscularity, or was it just pretty packaging?

Thanks for reading!
